Bitcoin Holds $80K as CLARITY Act Deadline Looms

Bitcoin Holds $80K as CLARITY Act Deadline Looms.

The cryptocurrency market entered a period of tight consolidation on Monday, September 7, with total market capitalization hovering between $2.77 trillion and $2.80 trillion. Bitcoin traded around $79,600–$80,100 after Friday’s short squeeze briefly pushed BTC toward $82,000.

Institutional demand remained supportive. Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded three consecutive days of inflows, attracting roughly $770 million to $987 million during the week through September 4. Their combined net assets have now surpassed $101 billion, representing about 6.35% of Bitcoin’s total supply.

Crypto derivatives also experienced significant liquidations. Coinglass data showed 65,155 traders had positions worth $197.84 million liquidated over 24 hours. This included $45.86 million in Ethereum longs as ETH slipped toward $2,490–$2,510 and $47.67 million in Bitcoin shorts.

Corporate Bitcoin accumulation continued during the volatility. European firm Capital B SA raised €28.7 million through a share placement involving investors including TOBAM and Blockstream CEO Adam Back. The company purchased 376 BTC at an average price near $78,100. Strategy also recently acquired 4,603 BTC at approximately $80,300, increasing its holdings to 845,050 BTC.

Meanwhile, regulatory uncertainty remains a major issue for XRP, Solana and the broader crypto market. Senator Cynthia Lummis warned that failure to pass the CLARITY Act during the current Congress could delay another meaningful opportunity for U.S. crypto market-structure legislation until 2030.

The Senate faces a September 15 procedural cloture vote requiring 60 votes to begin debate, while the congressional calendar leaves little time before lawmakers depart Washington ahead of the November elections. Polymarket odds of passage have consequently fallen to around 13%–18%.

For XRP and Solana, a delay would largely preserve the existing regulatory framework rather than immediately change their status. XRP is currently trading in a narrow $1.40–$1.42 range as investors weigh institutional demand against uncertainty over future U.S. crypto regulation.
