Ripple appears to have shifted more than $1.36 million worth of its RLUSD stablecoin from the XRP Ledger (XRPL) to Ethereum, according to onchain data that has drawn attention from the crypto community.
Blockchain records show that 1,363,614.85 RLUSD was burned on the XRP Ledger on September 6. The transaction, apparently conducted by Ripple as the stablecoin's issuer, permanently removed the tokens from circulation on XRPL.
Just seconds later, Ethereum recorded the minting of exactly 1,363,614.85 RLUSD. The newly created stablecoins were subsequently transferred to an external wallet, suggesting the transactions may have been part of an issuer-managed migration or liquidity rebalancing between the two blockchains.
The matching burn and mint amounts are significant because they indicate Ripple was likely not simply expanding RLUSD's overall circulating supply. Instead, the company appears to have relocated existing stablecoin liquidity from the XRP Ledger to Ethereum.
Such cross-chain supply management allows an issuer to adjust the availability of its stablecoin on different networks based on liquidity requirements, market demand or broader distribution plans. In this case, approximately $1.36 million in RLUSD liquidity effectively moved from XRPL to Ethereum.
The transaction comes as adoption of Ripple USD, commonly known as RLUSD, continues to expand. Ripple launched the dollar-backed stablecoin with support for both Ethereum and the XRP Ledger, giving users access to RLUSD across two major blockchain ecosystems.
The latest movement has prompted speculation about Ripple's strategy for distributing RLUSD liquidity. Ethereum has a large decentralized finance ecosystem and extensive stablecoin infrastructure, making deeper liquidity on the network potentially useful for trading, payments and other onchain applications.
While the transactions themselves do not establish Ripple's specific reason for the shift, the identical burn and mint amounts point toward supply rebalancing rather than new issuance.
The movement highlights how Ripple can manage RLUSD supply across supported networks while maintaining the stablecoin's broader availability as adoption grows.
