Nonprofit blockchain organization IOTA Foundation has partnered with the Eclipse Foundation, an open-source software foundation for commercial innovation and collaboration, to launch Tangle EE Working Group.

Tangle EE brings together a diverse group of companies, academics and standard bodies that are dedicated to developing data and finding solutions and tooling on IOTA’s Tangle.

The working group's founding members include Dell Technologies, STMicroelectronics, Software AG, Object Management Group, accessec, Energinet, BiiLabs, Calypso Network Association, ENGIE Lab CRIGEN, RWTH Aachen University, AKITA, Geometric Energy Corporation, TMForum, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and IoTIFY.

Commenting on the firm's decision to join the working group, Steve Todd, a fellow at Dell, told CoinDesk that the company believes that data marketplaces will grow considerably by the end of the decade and joining the initiative will enable it to collaborate with others on developing solutions.

"By 2030, trillions of dollars of data will be exchanged and one of the reasons for joining Tangle is to help our customers move towards that reality,” said Todd.

According to a press release, the first two projects will explore decentralized marketplaces, which facilitate real-time trading of data and services, and decentralized identity, which enables a unified identity for people, organizations and devices.

“The Eclipse Foundation will provide a vendor-neutral governance framework for open collaboration, with IOTA’s scalable, feeless, and permissionless DLT [distributed ledger technology] as a base,” said Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation. “By doing so, we will accelerate the development of new applications built with this transformative technology.”

In September, British automotive giant Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) unveiled a proof-of-concept (POC) for tracing car energy using IOTA’s immutable DLT Tangle.
