Changpeng Zhao (CZ), former Binance CEO, has urged Elon Musk to ban bots from X, stating he prefers interacting only with real users. CZ specifically called for disabling API posting to curb bot activity.
Despite Musk's ongoing efforts to combat spam, bot presence on X remains rampant, with many even sporting blue checkmarks. Cybersecurity firm CHEQ previously reported that a significant portion of X's traffic is fake, highlighting the scale of the problem. The rise of AI-driven spam has transformed bot-making into a full-fledged industry, making X resemble a digital ghost town where bots engage with each other.
While CZ acknowledges AI’s usefulness for tasks like booking hotels or coding, he sees no need for social interaction with bots. “If I want to chat with bots, I have Grok in a private window,” he remarked.
Musk once proposed charging users a small fee per post to deter bots, but the backlash forced him to abandon the idea. Given X’s ad-based revenue model, bot proliferation remains a major concern.
Zhao, who contributed $500 million to Musk’s Twitter acquisition in 2022, previously expressed support for Musk’s vision. However, X continues to struggle with its bot problem, and the debate over potential solutions remains heated.
