Coinbase Stock Eyes $180 as Wall Street Turns Bullish

Coinbase Stock Eyes $180 as Wall Street Turns Bullish.

Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN) stock gained 0.15% on September 9, trading near $179 as investors assessed Wall Street’s bullish outlook for S&P 500 earnings alongside company-specific regulatory and technical risks.

Wall Street analysts expect S&P 500 earnings to strengthen through the remainder of 2026, supported by artificial intelligence investment and robust corporate results. Analyst Walter noted on X that forecasts now point to 32% earnings growth in 2026, with AI, energy, consumer and communication services companies expected to lead gains.

The broader outlook follows a strong second quarter, when 86% of S&P 500 companies reportedly exceeded expectations. Coinbase, however, generated $1.22 billion in Q2 revenue, missing Wall Street estimates of $1.29 billion to $1.31 billion. Analysts also expect Coinbase to report a loss of $0.21 per share for Q3, suggesting COIN stock may not fully participate in the broader earnings boom.

Regulatory uncertainty is another potential headwind. CoinGape prediction-market data indicates that 85% of traders expect the CLARITY Act to fail to become law in 2026. The bill is scheduled for a U.S. Senate vote on September 15. Failure to advance crypto market structure legislation could pressure U.S.-listed crypto stocks, including Coinbase.

Still, Coinbase continues expanding its product lineup. The crypto exchange recently submitted an SEC filing seeking to introduce stock perpetual futures for U.S. customers.

From a technical perspective, Coinbase stock has remained within a relatively tight $174-to-$192 range since August 21. Three consecutive red volume bars indicate elevated selling pressure, putting the $173-$177 support zone in focus. A decisive breakdown could expose the Point of Control near $160, an area that previously attracted buyers.

However, the Relative Strength Index stands at 52, indicating slightly bullish momentum. If COIN stock successfully reclaims and holds above the psychological $180 resistance level, the upward trend that began on August 19 could regain momentum, particularly if broader S&P 500 earnings optimism continues supporting U.S. equities.
