Buying Bitcoin will now be a lot easier for Australian residents. In a new service aimed at promoting cryptocurrency to mainstream use, Bitcoin.com.au entered into a partnership with Australia Post enabling people to purchase Bitcoin at any of the more than 3,500 national post offices.

The partnership with Australia Post was announced by Bitcoin.com.au on June 24, 2020, allowing Australian residents to purchase Bitcoin (BTC) at any of its postal branches nationwide. Postal offices will accept both Australian dollars and EFTPOS payments (electronic funds transfer at point of sale) as payment for cryptocurrency purchases from Bitcoin.com via the Post Billpay service.

The service is made possible thanks to a partnership with Blueshyft, the Australian payment service firm that iOS-based platform that allows digital businesses to accept cash payments. Bitcoin.com.au is also working with 1,500 retail stores in the country.

Bitcoin.com.au CEO Hoger Arians hails the new partnership with Australia Post as a major milestone for cryptocurrency adoption in the country. “This is a major milestone for digital currency in Australia and around the world,” Arians said. “It proves that there are established businesses and organizations that want to learn about new technologies by doing, and not by blocking.”

Arians also thanked Australia Post for its willingness to try out new technologies. He said that the partnership would make it easier for first-time cryptocurrency buyers as they would feel safer transacting with a postal branch in their locality.

“Our mission is to make Bitcoin safe and easy for every Australian,” he added. “For many people, paying for Bitcoin at an Australia Post office feels safer than transferring funds online — particularly for first-time buyers. We’re proud of this partnership and would like to thank Australia Post for its continued openness to new technologies.”

Meanwhile, Australia Post’s Head of Business & Government Financial Services Susan Nicholson said that accepting payments for BTC purchases is proof of the postal service’s commitment to making services accessible to everyone.

“Post Billpay has been one of Australia’s most trusted bill payment methods for over 20 years, and we’re pleased to now provide the ability for Bitcoin bills to be paid at a post office, which will come with a product enhancement that offers ID verification and real-time bill payment confirmation back to the biller,” Nicholson said.
