Social media platform Twitter is making it easier for its users to search for the prices of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH). The company added a new crypto feature that allows users to simply type the crypto’s name or ticker into the app’s search tab.

The new crypto feature was confirmed by the Twitter Business account on December 21, 2022, according to Cointelegraph. The company explained that the new functionality is an improvement of "$Cashtags."

When a user tweets the symbol of a major stock, crypto, or exchange-traded fund (ETF) with a dollar sign in front of it, viewers of the post will be able to see a clickable link. Clicking on the link will direct them to search results, which include the price graphs for these assets. Similarly, simply searching for the stock or crypto symbol with also bring up its price graph.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk retweeted the post announcing the new feature on December 22, 2022, and hinted that more innovative improvements are coming to the social media platform. “One of many product improvements coming to financial Twitter! Nice work by Twitter team,” Musk wrote.

At the moment, it appears that the new feature only shows the price charts of the top two cryptos Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH). It does not yet show the price chart of Dogecoin (DOGE), one of the tokens frequently mentioned by Musk.

Twitter users can expect the feature to support more cryptos soon. Twitter Business confirmed that it expects to expand its coverage of symbols in the coming weeks.

Cointelegraph experimented to see what variations of Bitcoin will trigger the new feature. The publication noted that “$Bitcoin,” “Bitcoin price” and “BTC price” also bring up the crypto’s price chart. The same variations also worked for Ethereum.
