Sony’s blockchain division is teaming up with Japanese social media giant LINE to bring its popular mini-apps to the web3 space via the Soneium network. The collaboration aims to integrate four LINE-based games—Sleepagotchi, Farm Frens, Puffy Match, and Pocket Mob—leveraging blockchain for in-game rewards and purchases.
With 200 million active users, LINE is a dominant player in social media, and its move into blockchain could drive significant web3 adoption. The partnership is led by Sony Block Solutions Labs (SBSL), a joint venture between Sony and Singapore-based Startale Labs. SBSL describes the collaboration as a way to make web3 technology seamless for users, eliminating traditional barriers to entry.
“Soneium’s integration with LINE’s successful mini-apps marks a major step in enhancing accessibility,” said Jun Watanabe, Chairman of SBSL. “This partnership will boost engagement and adoption in ways previously difficult to achieve.”
Launched in January 2025, Soneium is a Layer-2 blockchain built on Ethereum using Optimism’s OP Stack. It is already making waves, ranking as the 15th largest Layer-2 by total value locked (TVL), according to L2 Beat. The network is designed to bridge web2 users into web3 while providing a smooth and scalable experience.
Sony’s foray into blockchain continues to expand, with Soneium playing a crucial role in onboarding mainstream users. The LINE integration could mark a turning point in mainstream web3 adoption, making blockchain gaming and decentralized applications more accessible than ever.
