The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) of the UAE has launched a blockchain-based platform that stores the data for health, pharmaceutical government and private facilities, health practitioners and drug information, Emirates News Agency reported.
The platform has been launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Dubai Healthcare City and health authorities. The objective was to the MoHAP and other health authorities more efficient in delivering smart health services.
It is part of the ministry's plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) by 100% with health services in line with the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
The platform is projected to make a significant shift in the health sector and help facilitate and simplify the search for health facilities along with their licensed medical and technical personnel with its 3-step process using the MoHAP app. It will also allow inquiring details about any medication - its price, manufacturer, method of use, etc.
Aside from encouraging medical tourism by simplifying access to high-quality integrated information, the project is expected to help health inspectors do their job effectively and efficiently.
"The transition to the AI technologies is in line with the directives of the wise leadership to make the UAE a leading global model in the proactive confrontation of future challenges and focus on smart health care. The AI-based projects will play a key role in enhancing the capabilities of health care services and providing smart medical solutions, in accordance with the UAE Centennial 2071, and its artificial intelligence strategy," said Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention’s Public Health Policy and Licenses.
"This innovative platform comes as part of MoHAP’s strategy to develop smart systems and provide the best smart electronic services, to achieve customer happiness and implement the standards of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and smart government enablers," he concluded.
Dr. Lubna Al Shaali, Director of Public Health Policy Department, said that blockchain technology will help enhance data and information verification and consistency, which would facilitate a high level of transparency and confidence in the healthcare services sector.
In September, MoHAP rolled out a blockchain-based system that records and shares healthcare workers’ information in public and private health facilities under its supervision.
