Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has issued a new scam warning alerting users about fraudsters impersonating Binance support staff to steal personal information and crypto assets.
According to Binance, scammers are contacting potential victims through messaging platforms like WhatsApp, pretending to be official representatives. These bad actors claim the user’s account requires verification for technical or security reasons, then request a video of the victim’s face under the guise of identity verification.
The exchange warns that these videos are not used for legitimate purposes, but are instead exploited to bypass biometric authentication systems, enabling unauthorized access to user accounts. By mimicking facial recognition data, scammers can potentially gain full control over a user’s Binance account and its assets.
Additionally, the fraudsters may send fake QR codes and links, urging users to scan them. Once scanned, these QR codes could lead to phishing sites or malware downloads designed to compromise user wallets and private keys.
Binance strongly advises users to avoid engaging with any unsolicited requests involving QR codes, facial scans, or video recordings. Official Binance support will never initiate such procedures through messaging apps or ask for videos without users starting a verified support ticket.
The warning comes amid growing security concerns in the crypto space. According to a recent report by blockchain security firm CertiK, over $2.1 billion worth of cryptocurrencies have been stolen in 2025 alone through scams, hacks, and phishing attacks.
To stay safe, Binance urges users to verify any suspicious messages through official channels, enable two-factor authentication (2FA), and remain cautious of identity theft attempts, especially involving facial data and account verification scams.
