Most people know Bitcoin (BTC) as the top cryptocurrency as it dwarfs the rest when it comes to market capitalization. But in the recently compiled ranking made by China’s Center for Information and Industry Development (CCID), BTC did not even make it to its top ten tokens.
On June 18, CCID released its 18th Global Public Chain Technology Evaluation Index, according to Cointelegraph. The index contains 37 well-known cryptocurrencies from all over the world and ranked them using technical specifications.
Surprisingly, the world’s largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization did not make it to the index’s top ten. With 106.2 points based on CCID’s ranking system, Bitcoin only managed to occupy the index’s12th spot.
Topping the list is EOS, which led the pack by a wide margin with its 150.6 points, according to Chainnews. The cryptocurrency scored 105.6 in basic technology, 20.4 points in applicability, and 24.7 in creativity. These are three areas assessed by the CCID to come with the ranking.
The second place is TRON with a total of 135.9 points. The token was given a rating of 92.0 points in basic technology, 28.4 points in applicability, and 15.5 in creativity.
The third spot on the 18th CCID Global Public Chain Technology Evaluation Index is occupied by Ether (ETH), which is the second-largest cryptocurrency in terms of market cap, which is only around a tenth of BTC’s capitalization, according to Investopedia. ETH scored 73.8 points in basic technology, 29.8 in applicability, and 29.4 in creativity for a total of 133.1 points.
The rest of the top ten cryptocurrencies in the CCID ranking are IOST in fourth place (130.3 points), LSK in fifth place (119.3), NEO (6th - 111.7), QTUM (7th - 111.0), NULS (8th - 110.3), XLM (9th - 109.6), and GXS (10th - 107.9). Meanwhile, the eleventh place is occupied by DASH with 106.6 points and BTC is in twelfth place with 106.2.
Despite not making it to CCID’s top ten cryptos, BTC’s twelfth spot is still an improvement compared to its previous ranking. According to Cointelegraph, bitcoin’s previous ranking was only at 17th place.
