Strategy, the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holder, is building a significant cash reserve as it expands its business beyond simply accumulating BTC. CEO Phong Le said the company now holds approximately $4.75 billion in cash after learning that traditional investors place greater value on dollar liquidity than on Bitcoin when evaluating preferred stock investments.

According to Le, Strategy’s cash position provides roughly 2.7 years of dividend coverage. The shift reflects feedback from institutional investors and others committing shorter-term capital to the company’s financial products. While Bitcoin is highly liquid and has historically delivered substantial appreciation, these investors tend to prioritize the predictability and accessibility of cash.

Strategy’s growing cash cushion supports its broader ambition to develop a digital credit business centered on Bitcoin. The company has introduced preferred stock products, including STRC, designed to give investors exposure to Bitcoin-related returns while reducing the volatility associated with directly holding BTC or Strategy common stock.

Le sees a wide spectrum of potential customers. Some investors want amplified exposure to Bitcoin’s price movements, while others are seeking lower-volatility income resembling traditional credit instruments or money-market investments. Although Le acknowledged that he may personally prefer holding Bitcoin, he argued that strengthening Strategy’s preferred stock offerings ultimately benefits MSTR shareholders and the company’s long-term Bitcoin strategy.

The company’s ambitions extend well beyond being viewed as a leveraged Bitcoin proxy. Le said Strategy wants to become the “JP Morgan of digital finance,” envisioning a financial ecosystem in which other businesses could build new products around Strategy’s offerings. Decentralized finance could also create additional risk-and-return opportunities and potentially direct more capital toward Bitcoin.

Strategy now reportedly owns around 840,000 BTC, representing approximately 4% of Bitcoin’s maximum 21 million supply. The enormous Bitcoin reserve has made the company increasingly influential within the cryptocurrency market.

Meanwhile, Strategy continues operating its legacy enterprise software business. Le said software revenue increased 7% year over year, while cloud subscription revenue climbed 54%. With roughly 1,500 employees spanning finance, law, engineering, AI, development and marketing, Strategy aims to combine its established corporate infrastructure with its expanding Bitcoin-focused financial platform.
