Crypto adoption is growing in Spain’s tourism industry. Two prominent hotels in the city of Seville have joined the trend and are now accepting payments in digital currencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) from the customers.
Hotel Bécquer and Hotel Kivir have recently entered into a partnership agreement with the Spanish crypto exchange Criptan, according to Bitcoin.com. With the partnership in place, customers of both hotels now have the option to use crypto for their bookings.
Hotel Kivir is a 31-room establishment located in Seville’s Old Town while the 134-room Hotel Bécquer is located in the former place of the Marquises of Las Torres. Both are four-star hotels and are among the prominent hotels in the city.
Alejandro Rodríguez expressed optimism on the future adoption of crypto in the global tourism industry. Rodrigues is the general manager of both hotels.
“It is very significant that the tourism sector is one of the first to adopt this new payment methodology with what it represents for the economy at an international and national level and the possibilities of cryptocurrencies that can be used globally,” Rodriguez said.
With the agreement, Criptan has expanded its portfolio of retail stores and businesses that accept crypto as payment. While customers will pay in crypto such as Bitcoin, the hotels will receive 100 percent of the funds in euros after processing and conversion by the exchange.
Aside from the tourism sector’s growing acceptance of crypto payments, adoption in the country’s real estate industry has been increasing as well. The Spanish real estate company Piso Barato Inmobiliaria announced in March that it has started accepting Bitcoin (BTC) as payment for its properties.
The real estate company owns a chain of properties that is either for sale or for rental in Tenerife, located in Spain’s Canary Islands. The company pointed out that forgery or duplication can be eliminated as one of the advantages of using crypto as payment since the deal is done through the blockchain.
“The evolution of expert agents in the real estate market has been so constant that buying a flat in Tenerife with bitcoin is currently possible,” the company said. “They assure that it is a positive contribution to expand the number of potential buyers internationally and give life to the sale and purchase of the real estate.”
