Ripple product head Jazzi Cooper has highlighted institutional credit as a potentially major use case for XRP, pointing to new XRP Ledger lending features designed to bring more institutional finance onchain.

Cooper said institutional credit remains largely untapped despite growing demand for onchain financial products. She pointed to the XRP Ledger’s developing lending infrastructure, particularly the XLS-65 and XLS-66 amendments, as a foundation that could help unlock this market.

XLS-65, known as the Single Asset Vault amendment, establishes a framework that allows assets from multiple depositors to be pooled within a vault. The feature is designed to work alongside XRPL’s proposed onchain Lending Protocol.

XLS-66 introduces fixed-term, uncollateralized lending using funds pooled through Single Asset Vaults. While underwriting and borrower risk assessments remain offchain, the protocol enables configurable peer-to-peer loans on the XRP Ledger.

Together, the Lending Protocol and Single Asset Vault amendments represent a significant step toward institutional lending on XRPL. Both amendments are currently undergoing validator voting.

The lending infrastructure is also set for another upgrade. Developers revealed that LendingProtocolV1_1 is expected to arrive with XRPL 3.4.0 next week. The revision includes improvements and fixes to the original Lending Protocol amendment, including a new “MemoData” field for the “VaultDelete” transaction. Developers have indicated that both lending and vault functionality will continue evolving through future updates.

The developments follow Ripple’s growing push into institutional credit markets. In August 2026, Ripple partnered with Cicada Partners and ClearPool to bring institutional lending capabilities to the XRP Ledger.

ClearPool this week announced another phase of its XRPL expansion, describing the blockchain as one of the industry's more mature networks while noting that significant institutional credit opportunities remain untapped.

If adoption grows, XRPL’s lending infrastructure could expand XRP’s utility beyond payments and liquidity, positioning the network as a platform for institutional credit and broader onchain finance.
