Billon Group’s subsidiary, Billon Solutions, inked a cooperation agreement on Friday with the Centre for Research on Legal Aspects of Blockchain Technology, operating at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw.

The newly signed agreement will see the two parties cooperate on the academic and expert work on blockchain, with initiatives to implement distributed ledger technology (DLT).

Together with experts from the University of Warsaw, we will explore the potential of introducing this technology to the academia,” Robert Kałuża, Billon’s Chief Operating Officer, said, adding that document immutability and instant money transfers are some of the benefits the university can enjoy.

Representing the university, Dr. Sławomir Żółtek commented that the new deal with the leading fintech will mark another step in the Center for Research on Legal Aspects of Blockchain Technology’s activities.

At numerous business and academic conferences, our experts discussed the possibilities and benefits of the widespread use of distributed ledger technology,” Żółtek said. “Cooperation with Billon confirms these statements and provides the opportunity to introduce DLT to the academic community.

Microsoft Poland will help the cooperation project of both parties by providing access to Azure cloud services, according to Billon’s press release. Katarzyna Węglińska, Microsoft Poland Enterprise Channel Manager, said that Billon invited them to join the project.

That invitation highlighted our close collaboration and conveyed the trust in our technology,” Węglińska said. “We believe a joint creation of secure scenarios will enable the development of projects associated with securing and streamlining the exchange of academic documents.

The collaboration follows after another subsidiary of Billon Group received a nearly $2.1 million grant from the European Commission under the SME Instrument program, which is a part of the Horizon 2020 framework program. Billon Digital Services will utilize the fund to complete the development of B4TDM (Blockchain for Trusted Document Management), which is a solution built using its proprietary DLT.
