Coinbase is set to debut a new credit card in partnership with American Express, offering users up to 4% cashback in Bitcoin (BTC). Called the Coinbase One Card, the crypto-backed rewards card is scheduled to roll out this fall and comes with additional incentives aimed at active digital asset users.

According to the company’s website, cardholders will earn 4% in BTC on eligible purchases. The card also features enhanced rewards on USDC stablecoin holdings, higher staking yields, and transaction credits on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network. This strategic move aligns with the growing trend of crypto exchanges integrating payment solutions into traditional finance systems.

The launch follows an increasing push from major crypto and financial players to offer blockchain-based spending tools. MetaMask, a popular self-custody wallet, introduced a debit card last year, while Mastercard announced plans to release crypto debit cards in partnership with exchanges like OKX and Kraken earlier this year.

For American Express, this isn’t its first foray into crypto. In 2022, it collaborated with Abra to offer a credit card with crypto rewards. Coinbase’s new offering signals its continued expansion into mainstream finance and consumer products.

The announcement came during Coinbase’s State of Crypto Summit in New York, where the exchange also hinted at bringing perpetual futures trading to U.S. customers. Currently, Coinbase’s perpetual contracts are limited to non-U.S. users via Coinbase Advanced. However, the company noted in a previous blog post that it is working with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to make these products available domestically.

As crypto becomes more embedded in daily spending habits, Coinbase’s upcoming credit card could mark a pivotal step toward broader adoption of digital assets in everyday finance.
