Donald Trump has named Bo Hines, a former college football player and onetime congressional candidate, as executive director of his new Crypto Council. The move underscores Trump’s pro-crypto stance and signals a push for industry growth under his incoming administration.
Bo Hines Takes Leadership Role in Trump’s Crypto Council
The newly formed "Crypto Council" under Donald Trump's upcoming government will be headed by Bo Hines, a former collegiate football star.
The soon-to-be president announced Bo Hines' appointment as executive director of the Presidential Council of Advisers for Digital Assets in a post on his social media platform Truth Social on December 22. Hines was a failed Republican candidate for the US House of Representatives in 2022, Cointelegraph reports.
With the addition of the name "Crypto Council," Trump's new advisory committee will be presided over by David Sacks, his choice for crypto and AI czar.
Super PACs and Crypto Backers Support Hines
“In his new role, Bo will work with David to foster innovation and growth in the digital assets space, while ensuring industry leaders have the resources they need to succeed,” Trump stated.
Hines was a Republican who came close to losing the 2022 race for the US House of Representatives from North Carolina to his Democratic opponent, Wiley Nickel.
Super PACs that support cryptocurrency, such as American Dream Federal Action, sent money to Hines and a number of other Republican candidates.
Ryan Salame’s Contributions Add to Controversy
Republican candidates, including Hines, allegedly received $13.4 million from Ryan Salame, a former CEO of FTX who is presently serving a seven-year prison sentence for charges including unauthorized political contributions.
Sriram Krishnan, formerly of Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) general partner, will serve as the new council's senior AI policy adviser, a position Trump previously announced.
Trump’s Pro-Crypto Agenda Gains Momentum
“I’m honored to be able to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI working closely with David Sacks,” Krishnan wrote on X in response to being named.
Trump has maintained his support for the cryptocurrency business, and these appointments show that. As a result of his campaign pledge to transform the United States into "the world capital of crypto," he received millions of dollars in donations from prominent figures in the cryptocurrency business.
Billionaire Elon Musk is one of several pro-crypto supporters he has nominated to important advisory positions.
Crypto industry leaders are hoping that the nomination of Paul Atkins, a pro-crypto businessman and former commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission, to chair the agency, which Trump made public on December 4, will reduce the regulator's enforcement actions against the sector.
