Ethereum co-founder and billionaire crypto developer Anthony Di Iorio has announced his retirement this week from Jaxx-wallet maker Decentral to concentrate on “philanthropic, educational, and health-related initiatives.”
Di Iorio will be stepping down as the CEO of Decentral, a Canada-based firm that he also founded and managed since 2014, according to a press release. He will be replaced by Maggie Xu, his girlfriend of two years.
Xu, a lawyer-turned-tech-entrepreneur, is no stranger to the blockchain industry as she has reportedly worked closely with Di Iorio for the past 2 years under the company’s Product Management, Business Development, and Marketing fronts.
Under her leadership, Xu aims to scale Jaxx Liberty, offer more partner services on its platform, and seek “strategic partnerships.” She aims to turn Jaxx Liberty into the “go-to unifying interface.”
“We’re building a blockchain app that empowers people to take control of their finances and personal data. Over the years, we’ve had millions of downloads because of our focus on functionality and ease of use,” she said.
Despite being retired, Di Iorio will still continue funding Decentral and approving the budget as chairman of the board.
“I’m excited for what the future holds for the company under Maggie’s direction. I will continue to work with her and the team on a regular basis. I have no doubt that she’ll take the company to new heights,” he said.
Di Iorio oversaw Decentral during the bear market in 2018, which cut into the firm’s profit and forced it to lay off nearly half of its employees, as noted by CoinDesk. Although the firm managed to survive the ordeal and has resumed hiring, Decentral is determined on growing into the ecosystem of crypto.
“We need to add the functions people care about, which is being able to buy and sell crypto, convert it to fiat and send it, while meeting other people in the community,” the newly minted CEO told the news outlet.
Last month, Patrick Byrne has also stepped down from his position as the CEO of Overstock after he admitted that he assisted on a political espionage done against Hillary Clinton and U.S. President Donald Trump and that he dated Russian agent Maria Butina, who is currently serving 18 months in jail after pleading guilty to charges of acting as a foreign agent.
