Fifteen years ago, on February 24, 2010, Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, introduced a new logo that would shape Bitcoin’s visual identity. Initially, Bitcoin’s logo featured a gold coin inscribed with “BC.” However, Satoshi replaced it with the now-iconic “₿” symbol embedded in a gold coin, seeking community feedback before making copyright-free images publicly available.
Later that year, on November 1, 2010, Bitcoin community member "bitboy" refined Satoshi’s design. He replaced the gold coin with a vibrant orange circle and rotated the “₿” symbol 14% clockwise. This became the universally recognized Bitcoin logo seen today.
At the time of the logo’s unveiling, Bitcoin was worth mere pennies, having launched at zero in 2009. Its first notable price increase occurred in October 2010, surpassing $0.10. Fast forward to today, and Bitcoin has soared to historic highs, reaching an all-time peak of $109,114 on January 20, 2025. As of press time, Bitcoin trades at $95,997 with a market cap of $1.9 trillion.
Bitcoin has transformed from an experimental digital currency to a mainstream financial asset. Major institutions continue to adopt Bitcoin, with companies like MicroStrategy, led by Michael Saylor, doubling down on Bitcoin-focused strategies. This evolution underscores Bitcoin’s growing influence in global finance, proving that what started as a decentralized idea has become a trillion-dollar force shaping the future of money.
