A top official of the crypto exchange Binance has abruptly left the company. After having worked with the company for almost three years, Wei Zhou, the chief finance officer at Binance, has left the company as confirmed by a spokesperson at the biggest crypto exchange by trading volume, according to Coindesk.

“After three years at Binance, Wei has decided to leave for personal reasons,” the Binance spokesperson said in an email. However, the email did not go into details as to what personal concerns might have prompted Wei to leave the crypto exchange so abruptly.

“While we cannot comment on what Wei will do next, we would like to thank him for his services and contributions during his time here,” the Binance representative added.

There are no clear indications as to when Wei specifically left the crypto exchange. However, a Twitter account associated with him was still posting tweets about Binance as of June 9.

Binance later reached out to Coindesk to clarify that the Twitter account has no connection with Wei. In fact, the crypto platform already reported the impersonation account to Twitter.

Wei Zhou joined Binance in 2018 as the company’s chief financial officer (CFO). He graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and East Asian studies.

“Mr. Zhou brings over 15 years of executive experience at leading technology, internet and media companies where he has built up particular expertise in financial management and accounting, capital markets and investments, as well as growing and scaling business operations in both China and the United States,” Binance said.

Due to his involvement in past initial public offerings, there were rumors that Binance might be going public. However, the company’s CEO Changpeng Zhao denied the rumors.
