Interactive Brokers, the brokerage powerhouse headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut, has officially added support for XRP, Solana (SOL), and Dogecoin (DOGE), further expanding its cryptocurrency offerings. The move marks a significant step in bringing more mainstream accessibility to digital assets, especially for institutional and retail investors seeking secure trading options.

Initially launching crypto trading in September 2021 through a partnership with Paxos, Interactive Brokers started with a limited selection—Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC). The latest addition of XRP, along with popular altcoins like SOL and DOGE, reflects growing client demand for diversified crypto exposure.

Former CEO Thomas Peterffy, who once expressed skepticism about cryptocurrency’s value, has shifted his stance over time. In 2023, he admitted to holding crypto despite calling it "worthless" because of its perceived value by others. By late 2024, however, Peterffy advised investors to allocate up to 3% of their portfolios to Bitcoin, while cautioning against investing more than 10% due to its volatility.

Peterffy, who stepped down as CEO, remains Interactive Brokers' largest shareholder and one of crypto's more unpredictable advocates. His evolving views mirror a broader shift among traditional financial institutions slowly warming up to digital assets.

The addition of XRP is particularly noteworthy, as Ripple’s native token has faced regulatory hurdles but continues to gain traction in the financial world. With Interactive Brokers embracing more crypto assets, this could further legitimize their use and increase adoption among conservative investors.

This strategic move underscores how legacy financial firms are adapting to crypto market trends, potentially boosting engagement and liquidity across multiple blockchain ecosystems.
