Ripple says asset managers and commercial projects are preparing to use the XRP Ledger’s Batch V1.1 feature as the upgrade moves closer to potential activation following an extensive security review.
Batch V1.1 allows up to eight XRP Ledger transactions to be grouped into a single operation. Its atomic, or all-or-nothing, capability means every linked transaction must succeed for the batch to settle. If one fails, the entire operation is canceled.
RippleX engineering head Ayo Akinyele said the functionality is particularly useful for delivery-versus-payment transactions, where an asset transfer and its corresponding payment need to occur simultaneously. The feature removes the risk of one side of a transaction settling while the other does not.
Exchanges, wallets and marketplaces could also use Batch to bundle customer payments with platform fees, reducing the need for separate transactions. Akinyele said projects are already being developed around the feature, with Ripple planning to disclose more details about asset managers and other partners after activation.
Batch V1.1 currently has support from 30 of the XRP Ledger’s 35 tracked validators, exceeding the 28 votes required to trigger the activation process. The 14-day countdown began on September 15 and could lead to activation shortly after 14:06 UTC on September 29.
However, validator support must remain at or above 80% throughout the countdown. If it falls below that threshold, the process resets.
The latest XRP Ledger upgrade follows the withdrawal of Batch V1.0 after researchers discovered a critical signature-validation vulnerability in February. The flaw potentially allowed unauthorized transactions from another account, but the amendment never activated on the live network and no funds were exposed.
RippleX subsequently redesigned parts of the signing and authorization system and expanded security testing. Batch V1.1 was included in xrpld version 3.3.0, released August 6.
The review included internal adversarial testing, AI-assisted analysis, a Sherlock security competition and assessments by Halborn and Common Prefix. RippleX said the expanded process was designed to establish a higher security standard before returning Batch to XRP Ledger validators.
