Metaplanet Buys 319 More Bitcoin, Boosts Holdings to 4,525 BTC

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet Inc. (TSE: 3350) has added 319 bitcoin (BTC) to its growing treasury, purchasing the digital assets at an average price of $83,147 per coin. This latest acquisition raises the company’s total bitcoin holdings to 4,525 BTC, valued at over $376 million at current market rates. Metaplanet’s aggregate cost basis for its bitcoin reserves now stands at $408.1 million, translating to an average acquisition price of $90,194 per BTC.

The strategic move is part of Metaplanet’s ongoing Bitcoin treasury strategy launched in December 2024, designed to increase shareholder value through long-term digital asset accumulation. The company tracks its treasury performance using “BTC Yield,” a proprietary metric that compares bitcoin holdings relative to shares outstanding. For Q1 2025, Metaplanet reported a BTC Yield of 95.6%, with a year-to-date yield of 6.5% as of April 14.

Funding for these bitcoin purchases is being sourced through innovative financial instruments, including bond issuances and stock acquisition rights. This approach has enabled Metaplanet to raise significant capital while minimizing equity dilution. The company has so far executed 41.7% of its broader “210 million plan,” an initiative aimed at further scaling its bitcoin position.

Metaplanet’s aggressive bitcoin accumulation strategy positions it as one of the most prominent public BTC holders in Japan, aligning itself with a growing trend of corporate crypto adoption. As digital assets become a more integral part of corporate balance sheets worldwide, Metaplanet’s BTC-focused capital strategy is being closely watched by investors and analysts alike.
