The gaming universe recently witnessed another significant step towards cryptocurrency acceptance. Roblox, the popular online gaming platform with an impressive 200 million monthly users, has now opened its doors to XRP payments. BitPay shared this significant update via the social platform X on October 17.
The logistics behind this integration involve Xsolla, a Los Angeles-based company responsible for handling Roblox's in-game transactions. To ensure a seamless experience for gamers interested in using XRP, BitPay steps in to ensure a smooth interface with various cryptocurrency wallets.
Roblox is no stranger to the digital domain, accessible across a range of devices, including Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The platform records an impressive 65.5 million daily interactions, with nearly half being avid young gamers under the age of 13. Reflecting the game's popularity and its in-game trading appeal, users poured approximately $773 million into in-game purchases in the first quarter of 2023 alone.
The move into the world of crypto is not an isolated event for Xsolla. The company has been at the forefront of embracing cryptocurrency solutions for a while. In August 2022, they collaborated with Coinchange Financials Inc. and TradeZing to develop an innovative payment solution focused on non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Fast-forward to August 2023, Xsolla expanded its crypto reach by integrating the checkout solution from Crypto.com into its Pay Station platform.
It's worth noting the long-standing relationship between Xsolla and BitPay, dating back to 2014 when Xsolla first started accepting BTC payments. Building on their shared vision, in September 2023, they introduced a new payment method for both merchants and users, enabling transactions using PayPal USD (PYUSD).
