Crypto exchange Coinbase launches XRP Trading in New York

Tue, 14 May 2019, 12:15 pm UTC

Crypto exchange Coinbase has announced the launch of XRP trading for New York residents.

New York residents would now be able to buy, sell, convert, send, receive or store XRP on Coinbase.com or using its iOS and Android mobile apps.

The price of XRP surged by more than 20 percent on the announcement to hit $0.41 earlier in the day (Coinbase). XRP is the third largest cryptocurrency by market cap and trading at $0.37 at the time of writing.

In February, Coinbase Pro added support for XRP, but did not include New York in the list of supported regions.

Coinbase currently supports a number of cryptocurrencies including bitcoin (BTC), bitcoin cash (BCH), ether (ETH), ethereum classic (ETC), litecoin (LTC), Zcash (ZEC), Augur (REP), and others. Circle’s USDC is the only stablecoin currently supported by the platform.

The exchange has also started offering a service that allows users to send money across borders using XRP and USDC stablecoin.
