Fantasy Top Expands to Monad Testnet With Free-to-Play NFT Game

Fantasy Top, the Ethereum NFT game that blends fantasy sports with crypto social media personalities, is expanding beyond the layer-2 network Blast. The game has launched a free-to-play version on the newly released testnet of Monad, a high-speed layer-1 blockchain aiming to rival Solana and Ethereum.

In Fantasy Top, players create lineups using “hero” cards featuring top crypto influencers like Ansem, ThreadGuy, and Truth Terminal. Like athletes in traditional fantasy sports, these heroes earn points based on their engagement on X (formerly Twitter). The game’s new version on Monad introduces exclusive heroes and offers players a chance to win whitelist spots for upcoming NFT collections on the Monad mainnet.

Players can now claim a free pack of 15 hero cards and join contests to earn rewards such as XP, tickets, and fMON—the testnet currency used in Fantasy Top’s marketplace. Registration is open, with the first Monad testnet competition kicking off tomorrow at 10 AM ET.

Fantasy Top debuted on Ethereum’s Blast network in May 2024, rapidly gaining traction with $21 million in weekly trading volume and 31,000 users. However, user activity has declined, with weekly participants exceeding 1,500 just once since November 2024. In December, the game secured $4.25 million in funding from Dragonfly to continue its mission of financializing social media.

Monad, which launched its testnet this week, has distributed tokens to over 8.8 million EVM wallets based on users’ activity on other chains. Backed by $244 million in funding, Monad aims to deliver fast and cost-effective transactions. A mainnet launch date has yet to be announced.
