Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Holdings to 17,132 BTC Worth $2 Billion.

Metaplanet (TSE: 3350), a Tokyo-based company known for its aggressive Bitcoin accumulation strategy, announced the purchase of an additional 780 BTC, bringing its total holdings to 17,132 BTC. At current market prices, this equates to approximately $2 billion, positioning Metaplanet as the largest public Bitcoin holder outside the United States.

According to the company’s disclosure on Monday, the latest purchase was made at an average price of 17.5 million yen ($118,176) per Bitcoin. Since implementing a Bitcoin treasury strategy modeled after MicroStrategy’s (MSTR) approach, Metaplanet has accumulated its holdings at an average cost of $99,732 per BTC.

The company introduced a proprietary metric called BTC Yield to measure shareholder value relative to equity dilution. For July 1 to July 28, BTC Yield stood at 22.5%, while the quarter ending June 30 recorded an impressive 129.4%, up from 95.6% in the previous quarter. This metric highlights how Metaplanet’s Bitcoin strategy continues to generate strong returns for investors.

Metaplanet’s stock reacted positively to the announcement, closing 5% higher at 1,240 yen on Monday, outperforming the Nikkei 225 index, which declined 1.1%.

The firm’s aggressive Bitcoin strategy underscores Japan’s growing role in the global cryptocurrency market, as institutional adoption accelerates amid increasing investor interest in digital assets. With its sizable holdings and performance-focused metrics, Metaplanet is emerging as a significant player in the evolving Bitcoin ecosystem.

This move adds to the broader trend of corporations leveraging Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset, signaling confidence in the cryptocurrency’s long-term value and reinforcing its position as “digital gold” in modern finance.
