Czech President Petr Pavel has signed a new cryptocurrency law, aligning the nation with the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation and providing long-awaited regulatory clarity. The legislation aims to simplify tax rules, support innovation, and facilitate banking access for licensed crypto businesses, marking a major milestone for the country’s digital asset industry.

The Czech Cryptocurrency Association (CKMA) played a key role in shaping the law, ensuring smoother tax compliance and fostering financial stability for crypto entrepreneurs. CKMA Chairman František Vinopal highlighted that once-unthinkable legislative proposals secured unanimous approval. With MiCA setting EU-wide standards, the Czech law enhances investor protection, addresses market integrity, and strengthens cross-border cooperation in the crypto sector.

In a related development, the Czech National Bank (CNB) is exploring the potential inclusion of Bitcoin in its foreign reserves. CNB Governor Aleš Michl noted Bitcoin’s low correlation with traditional assets and its potential for portfolio diversification. While discussions remain preliminary, the move signals growing institutional interest in digital assets.

With MiCA taking effect on December 30, the Czech Republic’s proactive stance could attract more blockchain businesses and investors seeking regulatory stability. This legislation reflects years of efforts by the crypto community to establish clear legal frameworks, reinforcing the country’s position in the evolving European crypto landscape.
