Crypto exchange Coinbase has announced the appointment of Tim Wagner as the new Vice President of Engineering.
Wagner will bring his extensive experience with leading great technical organizations to Coinbase. He is joining Coinbase from Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he most recently served as General Manager for of AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, and AWS Serverless App Repository. Wagner has also spent several years at Microsoft.
“Tim is passionate about the Coinbase mission, he’s aligned with our values, and he has deep experience with leading great technical organizations. These qualities, along with his engineering expertise, make him the ideal addition to our team. We couldn’t be more excited to have him on board,” Brian Armstrong, Co-Founder and CEO at Coinbase, said, adding that Wagner will lead and expand the company’s engineering team.
Last week, Coinbase announced that its custodian service for institutional investors, Coinbase Custody, is exploring the addition of many existing and forthcoming crypto assets for storage only.
In an online post, Sam McIngvale, Product Lead, Coinbase Custody, said that in addition to ERC20 tokens, the assets currently being explored include Cardano (ADA), QTUM (QTUM), Zcash (ZEC), Stellar Lumens (XLM), Ripple (XRP), Monero (XMS), Bitcoin Gold (BTG), and several others. Coinbase Custody went live last month.
Furthermore, the company announced that it has renewed its money transmitter license in Wyoming, which will allow Wyoming customers to buy, sell and use cryptocurrencies. Coinbase had previously suspended its business in the state due to regulatory policies.
“The leadership and partnership between the state legislature and Governor Matt Meade allowed for this new legislation to be signed into law, under which cryptocurrency companies in Wyoming are no longer required to double reserve the assets of state residents,” Mike Lempres, Chief Legal & Compliance Officer at Coinbase, said. “Now Coinbase and other compliant, regulated cryptocurrency companies can serve Wyoming customers in the same way we serve customers from nearly every other state.”
