Ethereum is approaching a crucial technical level after staging a strong recovery from its sharp June decline, with traders closely watching whether the second-largest cryptocurrency can reclaim the $2,000 mark.
After falling to nearly $1,550 during June's market sell-off, ETH has rebounded to around $1,870, supported by a steady pattern of higher highs and higher lows throughout July. The recovery has been reinforced by renewed buying momentum and the successful reclaiming of the 50-day and 100-day exponential moving averages, which are now acting as key support levels near $1,796 and $1,732, respectively.
The next major challenge lies at the 200-day moving average, currently positioned around $1,936. This level has repeatedly acted as strong resistance throughout 2025, making it one of Ethereum's most important technical barriers. A decisive breakout above this zone would not only confirm improving market sentiment but also place ETH back above a critical long-term trend line, increasing the likelihood of a move toward the psychologically significant $2,000 level.
Ethereum's recent price action also highlights growing buyer confidence. Following the June capitulation, the cryptocurrency formed a solid V-shaped recovery, while consistently strong trading volume suggests the rally has been driven by genuine market participation rather than short-term speculation.
Momentum indicators further support the bullish outlook. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) has climbed to around 60, reflecting strengthening demand while remaining below overbought territory. This leaves room for additional upside if buying pressure continues.
A successful close above $1,936 could trigger fresh momentum buying and encourage sidelined investors to re-enter the market, potentially accelerating Ethereum's advance toward and beyond $2,000. However, if ETH fails to overcome this resistance, a temporary pullback toward the $1,800 support area remains possible. While such a decline would not necessarily end the current recovery, it could delay Ethereum's attempt to reclaim one of the cryptocurrency market's most closely watched price levels.
