Bitcoin fell roughly 2% to around $68,500 in early Tuesday trading, completely wiping out Monday's brief push above $70,000. The selloff wasn't driven by any shift in market fundamentals — geopolitical risk is firmly in the driver's seat.

Monday's rally was built on shaky ground from the start. Over $145 million in forced short liquidations, according to CoinGlass data, powered the move higher. Without fresh capital flowing in to support those gains, the bounce was always going to be fragile.

The trigger for Tuesday's risk-off mood was the looming deadline set by President Trump for Iran to accept a deal — or face expanded military action. Tehran rejected a ceasefire proposal relayed through Pakistan, holding firm on demands for sanctions relief, reconstruction aid, and a permanent end to hostilities. With diplomatic talks stalled, markets responded quickly.

Oil surged past $113 per barrel on threats to strike Iranian infrastructure, while gold climbed to $4,654 an ounce as investors sought safety. Crypto partially recovered, with Bitcoin edging back toward $68,957 and Ethereum stabilizing around $2,115. BNB slipped 0.6% to $600, and XRP fell a similar amount to $1.32. The global crypto market cap held near $2.44 trillion, down just 0.2%.

Bitcoin has now stalled at the $70,000 level multiple times since late February, when Iran-related geopolitical tensions first began pressuring risk assets. Each rally to that zone attracts sellers and hits thin liquidity — a pattern that has become increasingly predictable.

All eyes are now on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor at the center of ongoing ceasefire talks. Any disruption there would significantly worsen the macro outlook. As long as crypto continues to trade in lockstep with broader risk assets, Bitcoin remains vulnerable to every new escalation.
