Bitcoin (BTC) experienced a sharp intraday reversal, falling from $106,500 to under $103,000 during the U.S. trading session before stabilizing around $103,200. This marks a 1.2% drop over the past 24 hours. The downturn triggered widespread volatility across the crypto market, leading to over $450 million in derivatives liquidations, with nearly $387 million from long positions, according to CoinGlass.

Ethereum (ETH) suffered steeper losses, plunging 4.5% in just 90 minutes to a low of $2,372, accompanied by a surge in trading volume to nearly 800,000 ETH—eight times the typical hourly average. Solana (SOL), Dogecoin (DOGE), and Cardano (ADA) also declined 3%-5% during the same period.

Despite rising geopolitical tensions, particularly the conflict between Israel and Iran, there was no direct macro trigger identified for the sudden downturn. Notably, traditional markets like the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 showed only minor losses on the day, suggesting crypto-specific factors at play.

Bitcoin remains range-bound between $100,000 and $110,000, consolidating near its all-time high. Market sentiment appears split between optimism for a long-term rally and caution over short-term macroeconomic and geopolitical instability. James Toledano, COO of Unity Wallet, noted the market's indecision: “The current BTC stalemate reflects a market caught between bullish long-term sentiment and short-term uncertainty.”

This latest move underscores the ongoing volatility in crypto markets and the vulnerability of leveraged positions. With no clear directional catalyst, investors are likely to remain cautious until stronger signals emerge, either from macroeconomic indicators or regulatory developments. Traders should prepare for continued choppiness as sentiment remains fragile.
