Bitcoin (BTC) has climbed to the fifth-largest asset in the world, reaching a record high of $109,400 on Wednesday and pushing its market capitalization to $2.16 trillion—overtaking Amazon’s $2.15 trillion valuation. Although BTC has since consolidated slightly to around $108,954, its position as a top-tier global asset remains strong.

The cryptocurrency is up 16.44% year-to-date, while Amazon shares have dipped by roughly 8% during the same period. This remarkable growth highlights Bitcoin’s increasing mainstream acceptance and institutional demand, especially in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s election win, which has been seen as favorable for crypto markets.

In comparison, gold remains the world’s most valuable asset with a $22 trillion market cap. Major tech giants Microsoft (MSFT), Apple (AAPL), and NVIDIA (NVDA) hold the next top spots, each with valuations between $3.1 trillion and $3.4 trillion.

Fueling this bullish momentum is the performance of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which has now become the fifth-largest ETF by inflows in 2025. The fund has attracted approximately $9 billion this year, reflecting growing investor confidence in regulated crypto investment products.

The milestone underscores Bitcoin’s evolution from a speculative asset into a globally recognized store of value. As institutional adoption accelerates and ETF inflows rise, Bitcoin’s role in the global financial ecosystem appears stronger than ever.

With BTC surpassing Amazon in market value, investors and analysts alike are paying closer attention to the cryptocurrency’s potential to challenge even higher spots in the global asset rankings.
