IREN shares rebounded sharply after Co-CEO Daniel Roberts reassured investors that demand for the company's AI computing infrastructure continues to outpace its current expansion capacity, highlighting strong business fundamentals despite recent stock volatility.
Instead of focusing on the recent swings in IREN's share price, Roberts pointed investors to the company's long-term growth. In a post on X, he revealed that signed customer agreements already account for approximately 85% of IREN's targeted annualized revenue run rate of more than $4 billion for 2026. He also emphasized that construction is progressing rapidly across the company's data center sites, where teams are expanding AI infrastructure and installing GPU clusters to meet growing demand.
Roberts noted that the company has faced tougher market conditions before and remains focused on executing its expansion strategy. According to him, customer demand continues to exceed everything IREN is currently capable of building, reinforcing confidence in the company's AI cloud business.
The latest rally follows IREN's announcement earlier this month of approximately $2.8 billion in AI cloud contracts with major technology companies, including Microsoft, NVIDIA, Perplexity, and Figure AI. Several of these long-term agreements include customer prepayments that will finance roughly 45% of the GPU infrastructure required for the projects. The upfront funding helps reduce capital expenditure concerns and eases investor worries about how IREN will finance its aggressive expansion plans.
Before the rebound, IREN stock had fallen more than 30% over the previous month, mirroring weakness across other bitcoin mining companies transitioning into AI hosting businesses, including TeraWulf and Applied Digital. The broader sector has been pressured by investor concerns over funding requirements and slowing momentum.
Trading activity surged during the recovery, with nearly 73 million shares changing hands, well above the company's average daily volume of around 53 million shares. The unusually high volume suggests the rally was supported by both renewed investor optimism and short-covering activity.
Despite the strong one-day gain, IREN shares remain lower over the past five trading days. Investors will likely watch closely to see whether the company's growing backlog of contracted AI revenue translates into sustainable cash flow as it works toward its ambitious 1.2-gigawatt capacity target by 2027.
