Corporate Bitcoin adoption is accelerating, with publicly traded companies now holding a combined 688,000 BTC, according to Bitwise data. This marks a 16.11% increase from the previous quarter and represents 3.28% of Bitcoin’s capped 21 million supply. The total value of these holdings reached $57 billion by the end of Q1 2025.

Leading the charge is Virginia-based Strategy, which recently added another $285 million in Bitcoin, bringing its total stash to over 531,000 BTC—solidifying its dominance among corporate holders. The surge in adoption was further bolstered by 12 new public companies purchasing Bitcoin in the first quarter alone.

GameStop made headlines by adopting Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset in late March. The U.S. gaming retailer reportedly followed Strategy’s debt-for-Bitcoin approach to fund its first purchase, estimated at $1.3 billion. Meanwhile, Japan's Metaplanet has unveiled plans to acquire up to 10,000 BTC by the end of the year, highlighting growing international interest.

Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley emphasized that 2025 could be the year of mass corporate Bitcoin adoption. One key driver is the recent adoption of the new FASB rule, which allows firms to report Bitcoin at fair market value—removing a major accounting barrier.

With 95,000 BTC acquired by corporations in Q1 alone, the trend signals growing institutional confidence in Bitcoin as a strategic asset. As regulatory clarity improves and financial reporting rules evolve, more companies are expected to add Bitcoin to their balance sheets, potentially reshaping corporate treasury strategies worldwide.
