Google Cloud's new Web3 portal debuts to mixed reviews from the cryptocurrency sector.

Google Cloud has unveiled a new Web3 portal featuring blockchain development tools, testnets, and educational resources, sparking diverse reactions across the cryptocurrency industry. While some praise the initiative as a comprehensive resource, others criticize its lack of native Bitcoin support.

Google Cloud Unveils New Web3 Portal Amid Mixed Reactions from Bitcoin Community

In a recent report by Cointelegraph, Google Cloud has launched a new Web3 portal containing tools for blockchain developers, such as data sets and tutorials on developing nonfungible tokens (NFT). However, the response from the Bitcoin industry has been divided.

“No native Bitcoin and lightning support? Seems like an oversight to ignore the most important cryptocurrency,” vice president of product marketing at Unchained Phil Geiger stated in an X post on April 25.

“Not impressed Google is way behind,” pseudonymous crypto trader MartyParty told his 80,700 X followers on April 26.

Meanwhile, others were more enthusiastic about the unveiling. Mitroplus labs founder Ivaibi Festo hailed the Web3 portal as a "comprehensive resource" in an April 25 X post.

According to its website, developers can use various tools and testnet tokens to create and test decentralized apps on the Ethereum testnets Sepolia and Holesky.

It also includes a learning program with instructions on creating an NFT, building Web3 loyalty programs, and protecting digital assets using multi-party computation. This follows numerous recent advancements by Google in the Web3 business.

Google recently updated its functionality to allow users to search for wallet balances on blockchains, including Bitcoin, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Polygon, and Fantom.

Google amended its regulations in early 2024 to enable certain cryptocurrency products, including Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, to be marketed on major search engines. In 2023, Google appeared to be focusing on forming relationships in anticipation of the portal's introduction this year.

Google Cloud Expands BigQuery to Include MultiversX and 11 New Blockchain Networks

In October 2023, Google Cloud's BigQuery data warehouse was linked with MultiversX, allowing Web3 projects and users to gain important insights from strong data analytics and artificial intelligence technologies within the Google Cloud ecosystem.

Just a month earlier, in September 2023, Google's BigQuery added 11 blockchain networks to its data warehouse.

The new networks were: Avalanche, Arbitrum, Cronos, Ethereum's Görli testnet, Fantom, Near, Optimism, Polkadot, Polygon's mainnet, Polygon's Mumbai testnet, and Tron.
