Williston, a city in North Dakota, is showing its support for the crypto industry by lending a hand to help push the adoption of digital currencies among its citizens. The city recently announced that it has just installed a crypto automated teller machine (ATM) in its international airport allowing passengers to trade in popular digital currencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).
“The City of Williston is pleased to announce a partnership with Coin Cloud (www.coin.cloud/) to host a Digital Currency Machine (DCM) at Williston Basin International Airport (XWA),” the City of Williston announced on its website. The city added that the installation of the crypto ATM “marks the first government-hosted cryptocurrency kiosk and the first Coin Cloud installation in an airport.”
Williston Basin International Airport’s crypto ATM supports more than 40 virtual currencies. Passengers and non-travelers alike can now use it to buy and sell cryptos supported by the machine including Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Shiba Inu (SHIB), and Cardano (ADA). They can also use the ATM to withdraw cash directly from their digital wallets.
“This is an ambitious step in introducing and engaging the public towards cryptocurrency while proactively playing a role in building the digital ecosystem,” Williston Finance Director Hercules Cummings said. “Although we are a smaller rural community, we are making an impact. Taking this small step may pave the way for other government and commercial entities to follow suit.”
The city has already partnered with BitPay allowing citizens to pay their utility bills with crypto. The next step is to install a crypto ATM in the City Hall. “As part of our roadmap, we will eventually cross these payment corridors over to licenses, permits, and other fees within the city,” Cummings added, according to Cointelegraph.
With the installation of the ATM, the city aims to convert public curiosity to acceptance and portfolio adoption of crypto. “We firmly believe simple but large moves like this will achieve that. We desire to continue making a transformational impact and position ourselves as a key player in this technology initiative,” Cummings said.
