MetaMask Adds Solana Support, Expanding Beyond Ethereum

MetaMask, the leading Ethereum wallet, has officially integrated support for the Solana blockchain, marking its first venture into a non-EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) network. Announced Tuesday, the update enables users to access the Solana network directly from the MetaMask browser extension, streamlining cross-chain interactions for millions of users.

Previously, managing assets across Ethereum and Solana required juggling different wallets. MetaMask's latest update eliminates that friction by allowing users to seamlessly transact on both networks within a single interface. This integration means users can now interact with Solana-based dApps, manage SOL tokens, and conduct transactions without leaving MetaMask.

The integration is currently limited to desktop browsers, but MetaMask has confirmed that mobile support is coming in the next few weeks. Once available, users on mobile will also be able to interact with the Solana network using the same convenience and functionality.

MetaMask is one of the most widely used crypto wallets, boasting over 100 million annual users. While it has long supported EVM-compatible networks like Polygon, BNB Chain, and Avalanche, this move to integrate Solana—an entirely different architecture—represents a major milestone. It paves the way for broader multi-chain support and reflects the growing demand for interoperability in the Web3 ecosystem.

According to the official blog post, additional non-EVM blockchain integrations are in development, indicating MetaMask's strategy to become a true multichain wallet solution.

With Solana’s rapid rise as a top smart contract platform and MetaMask’s dominance in the wallet space, this integration is poised to drive even greater adoption for both projects, offering users a more unified and accessible Web3 experience.
