Crypto payments processor BitPay has announced the appointment of Glen Braganza as its Chief Financial Officer.

Braganza will bring his extensive experience spanning 15 years in private equity and public markets with a strong focus on payment processing to BitPay.

He joins the company from payment processing giant Worldpay where he served as Chief Financial Officer for the U.S. division. In his 10-year career span at Worldpay, he was instrumental in the successful $7.4 billion IPO of Worldpay in 2015, and the establishment of the Group’s regulated business in the Netherlands in 2014.

Prior to Worldpay, Braganza has also worked at Lloyds Banking Group in the UK and Jefferies & Co in London.

“Glen’s experience is a key advantage to BitPay as the team moves the company into the mainstream to help businesses leverage blockchain for fast consumer transactions and easy global payments,” Stephen Pair, CEO and co-founder of BitPay, said.

In his new role, Braganza will support BitPay through its next phase as the company grows into a global financial organization.

BitPay allows merchants to accept blockchain payments from users all over the world for only a 1% fee. It processed over $1 billion in payments last year, the release said.

“BitPay is at the cutting-edge of blockchain-payment technology and has proven itself as a valuable partner to numerous companies and consumers globally. I believe that BitPay has the opportunity to be a game-changer in the financial technology and payment space as the use cases for blockchain payments grow around the world. I am very excited to be part of this journey and join the team,” Braganza said.

Last week, Refundo, a provider of tax-related financial products, partnered with BitPay to make federal and state tax refunds available in Bitcoin directly to taxpayers.
