Elon Musk has revealed plans to launch a new political movement, the "America Party," which he says will embrace bitcoin and promote a pro-technology, centrist platform. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO made the announcement on X, marking a clear split from former ally President Donald Trump.
Musk, a long-time supporter of cryptocurrencies, noted that both SpaceX and Tesla hold bitcoin (BTC), which is currently trading above $109,000. The America Party, though not yet officially registered, aims to champion free speech, reduced regulation, and forward-looking tech policies, while staying centrist on most other issues.
The fallout between Musk and Trump reportedly centers on the so-called "Big Beautiful Bill," a major Trump initiative Musk has slammed as "fiscally reckless," dubbing it the "debt slavery bill." This policy clash appears to have catalyzed Musk’s decision to form his own political movement.
While the America Party has no official website or formal platform yet, Musk’s frequent posts on X and endorsements from supporters provide glimpses into its agenda. He has clarified that the party does not plan to field a presidential candidate immediately but will instead focus on gaining influence through House and Senate races.
In response, Trump criticized Musk in a Truth Social post, calling him a "train wreck" and claiming the tech billionaire had gone "off the rails."
Musk’s latest political move underscores his growing influence beyond tech and business, as he positions himself as a champion of decentralized innovation and financial freedom through cryptocurrency. If realized, the America Party could reshape U.S. political discourse around technology, crypto, and government oversight.
