Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has firmly denied claims that he could be forced by governments to censor or control the blockchain. In response to a viral social media post alleging that ADA’s design allows centralized interference, Hoskinson fired back with sarcasm and a meme from the film Vacation, mocking the idea that Cardano could be manually manipulated.

The controversy stemmed from a thread suggesting that unlike Bitcoin, altcoins like Cardano could be shut down or influenced via their creators. Hoskinson dismissed the argument as classic FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt), reiterating that Cardano is a decentralized protocol not under any single entity’s control.

Critics have long questioned Cardano’s decentralization, citing its reliance on Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK) and Hoskinson himself. However, Hoskinson has repeatedly emphasized Cardano’s evolving governance model and community-driven upgrades, pushing back against the “ghost chain” narrative. The Cardano blockchain now supports over 150 decentralized applications and smart contracts, reflecting its growing utility and adoption.

Recently, Hoskinson also made headlines with a bold $100 million DeFi stimulus proposal, urging the Cardano Foundation to invest treasury funds into assets like USDM, USDA, and Bitcoin. The aim is to boost DeFi liquidity and utility on Cardano. While some praised the plan, others expressed concern that such a move might negatively impact ADA’s price.

Despite ongoing criticism, ADA remains in the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap. It is currently trading around $0.60 — well below its all-time high of $3.10, but showing resilience amid market volatility.

Hoskinson’s direct and transparent responses continue to shape the public discourse around Cardano’s governance and decentralization.
