Strategy (MSTR) has returned to the Bitcoin market after several weeks on the sidelines, purchasing 950 BTC for $75.7 million as cryptocurrency prices rallied.
According to a regulatory filing released Monday, the Michael Saylor-led company acquired the Bitcoin at an average price of $79,670 per coin. The transaction marked Strategy’s first Bitcoin purchase since late August and was financed using funds from its U.S. dollar reserve.
Strategy also deployed $174 million in cash to repurchase STRC securities and another $57.4 million to cover dividend payments on its preferred stock. Following those transactions and the latest Bitcoin acquisition, the company said its USD reserve stands at $5 billion, while USD cash totals approximately $1 billion.
The latest purchase further expands Strategy’s position as one of the largest corporate holders of Bitcoin. The company now owns 846,000 BTC acquired for an aggregate purchase price of $63.81 billion. Its average acquisition cost across the entire Bitcoin portfolio is $74,417 per coin.
Strategy, led by Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, has made Bitcoin accumulation a central part of its corporate treasury strategy. The company’s purchases are closely watched by cryptocurrency investors because of the size of its holdings and MSTR’s strong exposure to movements in the Bitcoin price.
The renewed buying came as Bitcoin staged a sharp rally. BTC climbed to around $84,500 on Monday, representing a gain of roughly 4.5% over the previous 24 hours. At that price, Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings would have a market value of approximately $71.5 billion.
Investors responded positively to both the Bitcoin rally and Strategy’s latest acquisition. MSTR shares jumped about 7% in pre-market trading, extending the stock’s close relationship with movements in the world’s largest cryptocurrency.
The latest purchase signals that Strategy has resumed Bitcoin accumulation while continuing to manage its cash reserves, preferred-stock obligations and capital structure.
