Bitcoin dropped 2.2% to $66,609 on Wednesday, erasing the previous day's gains after President Trump's primetime address signaled a tougher stance on Iran rather than the diplomatic softening markets had been hoping for. His remarks that the U.S. would hit Iran "extremely hard" over the coming weeks sent shockwaves through both crypto and traditional financial markets.

The broader digital asset market followed suit. Ether declined 2.2% to $2,056, BNB shed 3.9% to $591, XRP dropped 2.5% to $1.31, and Solana's SOL led the pack lower with a 5.2% slide, pushing its weekly losses to 13%.

The selloff came as a sharp reversal of Tuesday's optimism, which had been fueled by Trump's earlier comments suggesting the conflict could wrap up within weeks and that a deal with Tehran wasn't necessarily required. Asian equities had surged 4%, and S&P 500 futures jumped on the back of that sentiment. But the speech delivered no policy shift, no ceasefire roadmap, and no timeline for reopening the Strait of Hormuz — the critical oil shipping route closed since mid-March. Brent crude surged 5% past $106 a barrel in response, while global equity futures and Asian shares fell sharply.

For crypto investors, the cycle is becoming painfully predictable. Bitcoin has spent five weeks trading between roughly $60,000 and $73,000, rising on peace signals and falling on escalation. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index has been stuck between 8 and 14 — deep in extreme fear territory — for over a month.

Seasonal data does offer a sliver of hope. April has historically been among Bitcoin's strongest months, finishing positive in 10 of the past 15 years with average gains of around 20.9%. Bitcoin also bounced off key technical support near $60,000 last week. Still, historical patterns hold little weight against an active geopolitical conflict. Until the war narrative shifts, Bitcoin's boom-and-bust headline cycle is unlikely to break.
