The White House is expected to reveal new details about the US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve in the coming weeks, according to senior digital assets official Patrick Witt. Speaking at the Consensus Miami conference, Witt said the Trump administration has made major progress behind the scenes regarding the Bitcoin reserve and the broader US digital asset stockpile.

Witt explained that the administration is now shifting from policy development to implementation after President Donald Trump established the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve earlier this year through an executive order. The initiative aims to preserve forfeited Bitcoin as a national reserve asset instead of liquidating it through traditional government sales.

During his remarks, Witt highlighted growing concerns over crypto asset security and custody management. He referenced a recent incident involving the alleged theft of approximately $46 million from US Marshals Service crypto wallets. The case reportedly resulted in the arrest of John Daghita in Saint Martin earlier this year and intensified concerns about how federal agencies secure seized digital assets.

According to Witt, the incident reinforced the need for stronger digital asset custody systems across federal agencies. He noted that cryptocurrency custody presents unique challenges compared to traditional financial assets and confirmed that the administration is preparing a formal announcement outlining the future direction of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.

The executive order signed in March 2025 also created a separate US Digital Asset Stockpile for other cryptocurrencies obtained through forfeiture proceedings. Federal agencies were instructed to review their digital asset holdings and evaluate how those assets should be transferred, secured, and managed under the new framework.

However, questions remain regarding the long-term Bitcoin acquisition strategy. The administration has not clarified whether the US government will only hold seized Bitcoin or actively purchase additional BTC. Officials previously stated that any future Bitcoin accumulation plan must remain budget-neutral and avoid additional taxpayer costs.

The upcoming White House announcement could significantly influence the cryptocurrency market by clarifying whether the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve will function solely as an asset management policy or evolve into a broader sovereign Bitcoin strategy.
