Twitter has rolled out its tipping feature that allows users to send and receive tips in Bitcoin or cash. The company also plans to roll out a feature that authenticates non-fungible tokens.

In an announcement on September 21, Twitter Inc. rolled out its “Tips” feature that allows uses to send and receive tips in fiat and Bitcoin (BTC). “Tips makes this easier to do, offering one fixed spot, right on your profile, where you can link to your Cash App, Patreon, Venmo, and other platforms where people can support you,” the company said.

The new feature is available for iOS users at the moment. However, Tips will be available to Android users in the coming weeks.

For users who want to send tips using fiat, Twitter has partnered with nine payment platforms as it won’t be processing the payments itself. These platforms include Bandcamp, Cash App, Chipper, Patreon, Razorpay, Wealthsimple Cash, and Venmo.

“Tap the icon, and you’ll see a list of payment services or platforms that the account has enabled, and you can select whichever you prefer,” Twitter product manager Esther Crawford said, Bitcoin.com reported. “Once you tap the service you want to use, you’ll be taken off Twitter to the selected app to send funds. Twitter takes no cut.”

For tips in Bitcoin, Twitter has partnered with Strike to facilitation the transactions. “In addition to the services currently enabled through Tips, people can now seamlessly tip with bitcoin using Strike — a payments application built on the Bitcoin Lightning Network that allows people to send and receive bitcoin. Strike offers instant and free payments globally,” Crawford said.

Except for Hawaii and New York, Strike is available in the U.S. and in El Salvador. Users need to open a Strike account and add their Strike username to their Twitter account before they start tipping in Bitcoin.

Twitter also plans to add support NFT authentication. “We’re excited to soon explore NFT authentication,” Crawford added. “It’s a way to support creators making this art with a stamp to demonstrate authenticity. By allowing people to directly connect their crypto wallets, they can track and showcase their NFT ownership on Twitter.”
