Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has officially confirmed its support for the rebranding of Toncoin (TON) to Gram (GRAM), marking a major milestone for the Telegram-linked blockchain ecosystem. The exchange announced that the token swap will be carried out automatically at a 1:1 ratio, allowing existing TON holders to receive GRAM without taking any additional action.
According to Binance, deposits, withdrawals, and trading services for Toncoin will gradually transition to the new GRAM ticker between June 23 and July 2. Trading for the old TON token will be suspended during the migration period, while new GRAM spot trading pairs are expected to launch in early July. Binance also stated that it will manage all technical aspects of the conversion process to ensure a smooth transition for users.
The rebrand follows a community vote in which 81.22% of participants supported restoring the cryptocurrency’s original name. The network update is scheduled to take effect on June 15, after which exchanges and trading platforms will begin implementing the ticker change.
The decision carries significant historical importance for the project. Originally developed by Telegram founders Pavel and Nikolai Durov as the Telegram Open Network, the native cryptocurrency was intended to be called Gram. However, after regulatory pressure from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) forced Telegram to step away from the project in 2020, the network was handed over to an independent developer community. The project was subsequently renamed The Open Network, and the token became known as Toncoin.
By returning to the Gram name, supporters believe the ecosystem is reconnecting with its original vision and identity. While Binance has fully embraced the rebrand, some platforms are approaching the transition differently. On decentralized trading platform Hyperliquid, validators are reportedly considering whether to delist TON-related markets despite developers emphasizing that the change is purely cosmetic and does not alter the network’s functionality.
The Toncoin-to-Gram rebrand highlights the evolving relationship between cryptocurrency branding, community governance, and exchange adoption, making it one of the most closely watched developments in the digital asset market this year.
