In a swift response to a critical security flaw, Solana's ecosystem developers and validators patched the vulnerability, preventing a potential network outage and maintaining blockchain integrity.
Before making the information public, members of the Solana ecosystem corrected a critical network vulnerability and secured the blockchain.
Developers, validators, and client teams working inside the Solana ecosystem rectified a "critical security vulnerability" on Aug. 9, according to X post by Solana validator Laine.
Solana Foundation Coordinates Patch Release
According to the business, many people from the Solana Foundation contacted them on August 7. A hashed message, including the date and incident identifier, as well as an advisory regarding an impending critical patch, were included in the communications.
Laine elaborated by saying that the communication contained the exact time and date of patch delivery, allowing for its immediate application to mainnet nodes in order to safeguard the network.
Cointelegraph did not receive an instant answer after contacting the Solana Foundation for remarks.
Critical Patch Deployed to Protect Network
However, in order for all parties involved to upgrade at the same time, the patch was only shared amongst trusted parties and distributed all at once. The vulnerability was finally reported to the public once 70% of the network had been fixed and was "ostensibly safe."
Although avoiding problems is preferable to fixing them, the Solana network has gone down before. Block production was paused for over five hours on February 6 due to the network's considerable outage. This had an effect on cryptocurrency exchanges, with some even banning the purchase and sale of tokens built on the Solana platform.
Solana's Stability Questioned After Outages
The network's beta status and customer diversity were called into question by the outage. Some have speculated that the lack of client diversity on the network was a contributing element to the outage. According to what Kadan Stadelmann of Komodo told Cointelegraph before, the developers and validators of Solana value speed more than 100% network uptime.
Solana Foundation strategic lead Austin Federa previously stated in an exclusive interview given at Paris Blockchain Week in April 2024 that the protocol is still in its beta phase and that the current network does not reflect the final form that developers envision for it.
