Blockchain startup AlphaPoint has announced that it is enhanced its offering for private equity, real estate, funds, and other financial institution clients.
Founded in 2013, AlphaPoint is a provider of asset tokenization software and digital asset trading technology for licensed broker-dealers, ATS, and exchange operators. In July 2018, it raised $15 million in a Series A funding round from Galaxy Digital Ventures, a venture investment firm founded by Michael Novogratz.
The firm has now announced enterprise-grade technology solutions enabling the issuance of asset-backed security tokens, thereby increasing liquidity for high-value asset classes.
In its official release, AlphaPoint said that its technology for issuing security token offerings (STOs) continues to mature, and will enable institutions to “create, issue, and trade tokenized securities in a secure, private environment.”
CEO Salil Donde said that the enterprise-grade software will enable institutions to both tokenize illiquid assets and trade those assets on an exchange or a licensed venue.
“As long-time participants in the blockchain technology ecosystem, we are enabling our customers to forge ahead with institutional adoption of security tokens as a means to streamline issuance, reduce deal costs via smart contracts, and optimize deal execution with the flexibility of the immutable ledger provided by STOs,” he said.
AlphaPoint’s asset digitization technology has already been adopted by Muirfield Investment Partners, a Real-Estate Private Equity firm, and Laureate Digital Securities Ltd., an asset management firm.
Muirfield is using AlphaPoint’s Regulated Asset Backed Token (RABT) framework to digitize shares in the form of EVER tokens. On the other hand, Laureate Digital Securities started using AlphaPoint Asset Digitization from November 2018 to issue digital securities, which could be bought and sold on secondary markets, improving liquidity.
“Asset digitization will replace the laborious, paper-based subscription process with online portals and electronic compliance checks, reducing customer onboarding time to minutes instead of days,” AlphaPoint said.
