From Elon Musk hinting that Tesla could be accepting Dogecoin as payment to the crypto’s impressive performance this year, DOGE has definitely risen in popularity recently. A recent study even revealed that 1 in 4 Americans believe Dogecoin is the future, while 3 in 10 think that it is the new Bitcoin (BTC).

Gamblerspick.com conducted a study last month that involved 1,001 respondents across the U.S. The survey used the Amazon Mechanical Turk survey platform and covered a number of topics include Dogecoin.

The survey revealed that 45 percent of Americans have already heard of DOGE. Of those who are aware of the crypto, 33.7 percent learned of it via social media, 21.7 percent from family and friends, 17.8 percent from coverage of Elon Musk’s statements, 13.2 percent via crypto reviews sites and online forums 7.6 percent from news, and 6 percent from other sources.

Indeed, Elon Musk has made several tweets about DOGE, which could sometimes influence its price movement. His recently created a Twitter survey asking respondents if they want Tesla to accept Dogecoin as a payment option, which prompted speculations that the electric car manufacturer might be planning to add the crypto as a payment method.

One of the questions in Gamblerspick’s actually asked respondents if they approve of Musk’s promotion of DOGE. A minority or 15.2 percent disapproved of the Tesla CEO’s actions while 43.6 gave their approval. Meanwhile, 41.1 percent said that they neither approve nor disapprove.

Apparently, Americans are now starting to compare DOGE to BTC. The survey noted that “30% of respondents believed that Dogecoin was the new Bitcoin.”

With the increasing coverage of DOGE by the media, Americans have already started to form expectations for the crypto. “More than 1 in 4 people believed Dogecoin is the future,” the study said, adding that “23 percent believed Dogecoin will reach $1 in 2021.”
