Coinbase Launches Crypto Futures in Canada With 10x Leverage

Coinbase Launches Crypto Futures in Canada With 10x Leverage.

Coinbase has expanded its derivatives business into Canada, giving eligible investors access to regulated crypto futures with leverage of up to 10x. The launch strengthens the exchange’s international push as it builds a broader platform spanning digital assets and traditional financial markets.

Through Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM), eligible Canadian traders can access 23 perpetual and dated crypto futures covering Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and 20 other cryptocurrencies. The products allow sophisticated investors to take long or short positions, hedge existing holdings and gain exposure to crypto price movements without directly owning the underlying assets.

CFM is registered with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission as a futures commission merchant. Its Canadian derivatives offering operates under an international exemption and is restricted to eligible sophisticated and institutional investors under local securities regulations.

Coinbase is also offering nano-sized futures contracts designed to reduce the amount of capital required to participate. Traders can use leverage of up to 10x, while introductory pricing for a limited period starts at 0.02% per trade plus $0.11 per contract.

The rollout extends beyond cryptocurrency derivatives. Eligible Canadian customers can trade five commodity futures, including products linked to gold, silver and oil. Coinbase has also introduced index futures such as COIN50, providing additional ways to diversify and manage market exposure.

Crypto derivatives have become a major part of the global digital asset market. Coinbase said worldwide crypto derivatives trading volume is approximately 4.4 times larger than spot volume, highlighting the potential opportunity as regulated derivatives access expands in Canada.

The launch supports Coinbase’s wider “everything exchange” strategy, which seeks to bring crypto and traditional financial products onto a single platform. Coinbase Canada has operated as a restricted dealer since April 2024 and is pursuing dealer registration with the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO).

Coinbase is simultaneously expanding other international services. Webull Canada recently selected its Crypto-as-a-Service infrastructure for crypto trading and custody, while Coinbase has begun offering U.S. stock trading to eligible customers in the UK.

The expansion into crypto futures, commodities and equities signals Coinbase’s growing ambition to become a diversified global trading platform.
